Cougars Updates

DVHL Player and Play of the Week Nominations

Evan Free, 10U A National Bojarski

Evan was nothing short of a rock star in the net this past weekend during the Congressional Cup. He displayed remarkable poise and skill throughout the high-pressure match-ups. Amid a weekend of intense competition, Evan remained unfazed and focused, consistently stepping up when his team needed him most. Whether it was facing rapid-fire shots or managing the mental strain of tight games, Evan’s ability to stay calm and composed under pressure was a pivotal factor in the Cougars' success. Evan truly embodied the qualities of a standout player—poise, focus, and resilience. His efforts this weekend were invaluable, keep up the great work, Evan!

Cooper Towey, 10U A American Crosby

Cooper backstopped the Cougars to a champion victory in a hard fought comeback OT win. Cooper remained composed and resilient throughtout the tournament giving his team the confidence it needed to push forward and secure crucial points through the weekend. He dialed in when things didn't go his way and continued to perform. But Cooper was a large part of a team championship. Every player stepped up when needed. Jaymo Hicks played outstanding two way hockey all weekend. Nolan Brown was a beast in the offensive zone setting up numerous scoring chances and goals. Nox Martin scored the biggest goal of the tournament in the finals to secure victory. Emmy Bollig led the team in points and outstanding play. Quinn Moorhead and Emerson Schoenthal battle through illness to provide crucial assists throughout the weekend. Stephen Crosby scored the game winning goal with 8 seconds left in game 4 to propel the cougars to the finals and complete a 3 goal, 3rd period comeback in the last 2:30 of the must win game. Joey Alerfieri scored two hugely important goals in games 1 and 3. Hunter Umbreit slammed home a goal to lock down a win. Aj McKenna, Teddy Corey and Tommy Coleman all played stellar defense and all 3 prevented multiple scoring attempts and would-be goals. Overall it was a outstanding weekend with a amazing team.

Nick Danby, 12U A National Johnson

Nick Danby continues to be the rock that any team can build around. His maturity off the ice and his ability on the ice are a perfect combination for a great career ahead. Nick stabilized his team allowing only 1 goal in three of the 5 games and taking his team to the last second of overtime in the finals. We are very proud of Nick and the progress that he has made this season.

Will Koch, 14U B Grassi

Will got his first point of the season Saturday. His power play assist was a key to keeping us in the game. Will is a solid stay at home defensemen that plays a good positional game and hardly makes mistakes with the puck. He’s a great teammate and is always there to support the team. He’s battled some injuries this season and was fighting through one all weekend, but he never let that slow him down or affect his positive attitude. We switched things up and put him out as a forward on the powerplay as a reward for all his dedication and he did not disappoint. He had a couple of nice scoring chances before setting his teammate up for the eventual goal.

Liam Avedisian, 14U B Grassi

Liam scored several goals throughout the weekend and was named player of the game by the coaches twice. While the goals were nice, Liam’s true contribution to the team came in his game play. He set the tone several times with big hits, played a solid positional game and always skated with speed and purpose. Liam also had a positive attitude on the bench and did his best to encourage his teammates even when the chips were down.

Ryan Brown, 14U A National Figueroa

Ryan scored the game winning goal in the championship game in overtime. He also amassed 12 goals and 3 assists over 5 games in the tournament.

Ryan Brown's winning goal to clinch the first place title at the tournament.
