Cougars Updates

Week 7 Player of the Week Nominations

Connor Moran, 10U B Eisel

Hat trick.

Bode Schugar, 12U B O'Reilly

Bo our goalie had a great game on Saturday. Even though we lost, Bo showed resilience and toughness to overcome an injury he sustained early. Our team went down in the score early and Bo suffered some sort of shoulder pain from a collision. Bo had to come out of the game and the team played with six skaters while Bo took a rest. Bo refused to stay out of the game and returned and held the other team to no further goals and the team rallied to almost achieve a comeback. Bo showed a significant improvement in his goaltending. Sometimes it takes adversity for strong players to turn into another gear and Bo did exactly that.

Pippa Hall, 14U B Grassi

Pippa Scored 2 goals and had an assist in our win against the Ice Hawks on Sunday. While those stats are deserving of a nomination on their own, that is not the full story. Pippa is a quiet leader on our team. She works hard at both ends of the ice every shift and does a great job supporting her teammates. Sunday's game was a good example of that. The coaches ask the team to come out to a fast start. Pippa won the opening faceoff and went right in and scored 10 seconds into the game. Her assist came after her second goal. Most kids get a little selfish after two goals trying to get the hat trick. Not Pippa, she continued to play her game and looked to set up teammates. She even declined to double shift at the end of the game to try get that third goal because she didn't want to take away from other teammate's ice time. Pippa showed exceptional character by putting her team ahead of her personal stats. She also showed that she has the skill to back up that character.

Connor O’Konski, 10U A National Bojarski

I would like to nominate Connor O'Konski for Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during the Halloween Howl Tournament. Connor played a pivotal role in leading the Cougars to a well-deserved second place in their division, showcasing his talent and determination throughout the event. In three intense games, Connor consistently demonstrated his skill and composure. His standout moment came during the championship game, where he came off the bench in the second period and made critical saves that denied any additional goals from the opposing team. This allowed our offense to regroup and ultimately tie the game, forcing it into overtime. During the 4 vs. 4 overtime, Connor continued to shine, shutting out the Bears once again and forcing the game into penalty shots. Despite the immense pressure, he remained calm and composed, showcasing his mental strength and focus. Connor's ability to handle the situation was remarkable, and he held the Bears to another tying round, leading to sudden death penalty shots. Throughout the tournament, Connor's positive attitude and encouragement for his teammates were infectious. His smile through the pressure motivated everyone around him, and his leadership contributed significantly to the team's success. For his outstanding performance, unwavering determination, and ability to inspire his teammates, I wholeheartedly nominate Connor O'Konski for Player of the Week.
