Open Hockey: How It Works + Rules to Know
Open Hockey is held most Saturday nights at CCSC. Open Hockey and Family Skate are a part of your Family Membership, which is included in your hockey tuition. All Family Members are welcome to participate.
If you are new to Open Hockey, it's an unstructured ice time for hockey players, much like how soccer players can kick a ball around with friends or play a pick-up game. You may see some kids playing an informal game, others just skating around and stickhandling, and some kids shooting on the net, etc. Parents are welcome to be on the ice during 12U and under sessions (with a helmet). A parent or guardian must be at the rink while 8U and 10U players participate in Open Hockey or Family Skate (no drop-offs, please). We recommend 12U parents stay at the rink during Open Hockey and Family Skate. Â
All Club members are expected to follow these rules and reminders to keep the game safe and fun for everyone.
All hockey participants must use the locker rooms to dress
Open hockey sessions are for Club members only
Guests are not permitted
Open Hockey is unstructured ice time for the kids
Full equipment is required, including a neck guard
Private instruction or coached lessons of any kind are not permitted
Body checking is prohibited
Sessions are divided by age group, and only those players should be on the ice during their respective session
14U and older players may not attend the 12U and under Open Hockey Sessions

Locker Room Policies and Reminders
Please take a moment to review our Locker Room Policyâall Club members are expected to follow it. View it here
Per USA Hockey Safe Sport, players must dress in a locker room for all practices and games. Players may not dress in the Warm Room or on a bench in the rink.
Parents should avoid entering locker rooms. At 8U, parents can enter locker rooms to assist players in getting dressed. At 10U, please encourage your player to get dressed on his/her own and to come out of the locker room for skate tying, etc. At 10U, there will be some players who need parentsâ help in the locker room, but the goal should be for the player to dress independently. 10U/12U players should exit the locker room to have their skates tied by a parent.
No cell phones may be out in locker rooms. Please do not ever take a photo or video of your child in a locker room. Players may not take photos or videos in a locker room.
